Analytical Design Methods

When I was working on Crustacean Frustration, our team's goal was to improve gameplay's progression and raise our players' retention rate. We had varying sets of data from both Android and IOS, but we wanted to specifically see our Total Sessions by Users and Session Duration increase. Our data shaped our design decisions, making it easier for us to decipher the intended experience, whether from feedback or input. By the end of Spring 2022, our KPI report had an average session length of 6 minutes to 7 minutes. In addition, D1 retention was raised to 4%, while D7 retention was increased to 2%.

Polish

One of our team's main goals this term was to polish the game. We believed that outside of progression, we had a lot of solid features in the game that could be improved and feel better for the user if we added more juice. My task was to find ways to improve the game's quality by finding ways we could continue polishing the game to make it feel better. We also received great feedback at PAX East, which allowed us to gauge what experience players had when introduced to the game.

Communication

The team for Crustacean Frustration varied widely in different skills. Being the only designer for that Season, I had to communicate with Producers, Programmers, and Artists. This was very beneficial as our team was able to work closely when it came to tasks and help further improve the game.
